- Please join us for a multi-media Engineers Presentation by historian and author John Laurence Busch, hosted by The IEEE Consultants Network of Long Island. John will tell us why the prospect of crossing the Atlantic Ocean in a steamboat was met with a mixture of skepticism and fear. Then he will show how Captain Moses Rogers addressed those fears, by creating the first "steamship" in history. Finally, John will illustrate how steam-powered vessels are the first in a long line of "high technologies," right up to the present-day internet.
- This presentation is based upon his widely-reviewed book, "STEAM COFFIN: Captain Moses Rogers and The Steamship Savannah Break the Barrier."
- John has made over 200 presentations to a wide variety of audiences, including numerous chapters of a variety of engineering societies. Please visit www.steamcoffin.com for additional details.
- We will meet on Tuesday, September 10th at 7PM. (Note that this is a change from our usual Wednesday meeting day.)
- The meeting will be held, as usual at Briarcliffe College in The Great Room at 1055 Stewart Avenue, Bethpage, NY 11714 (see the attached map).
- Light refreshments will be served at approximately 6:30 PM. No pre-registration is required. Continuing Education Units (CEU) credit is hoped to be arranged for this lecture. There is no admission fee except if you wish to obtain CEU credit. The CEU fee is $25. (Please see the attached file, CEUs_at_LICN.pdf.) As always, visitors are always welcome. Just come in, have a seat, have a chat, have a nosh and we’ll hear John’s presentation. As always, it’s going to be a busy night.
