LICN Monthly Meeting Meeting Minutes – March 2, 2016 I. Administrative a. Attendees: about 40, the attendance sheet was misplaced. We expressed our thanks to both Chris Early and Andy Baxt for providing the food again. b. Chris Early asks that all members to RSVP via meetup.com when the meeting notice messages arrive. c. The meeting began with each of the attendees giving the usual introduction and a ~30sec skills summary. d. For the telephone referral service: i. Len Anderson – March ii. Carl Meshenberg – April iii. Murray Kleiner - May e. Planned April lecture topic is TBD. f. Future meeting locations: Briarcliffe has told us that they will be closing the building (probably beginning in 2017) that we have been meeting in for many years, John Dunn is leading the effort to find another venue. He has already found several other possible venues; final results for the future meeting location are TBD. II. Discussion topic: a. This month’s lecture was “High Vacuum Chambers” by Tony Piera. Tony is the founder and president of Spectrum Thin Films, Hauppauge, Tony gave an interesting overview of what it takes to create from scratch, a new technology company. He described numerous topics associated with optical thin films and coatings. He also described the efforts involved with creating an Optical Coating Laboratory and building automated Hi Vacuum Chambers. Quite interesting lecture and the talk elicited numerous comments from the audience. III.
