- Topic: "An Introduction to Web Handling – Overview," by Jerry Brown of Essex Systems, Huntington, NY.
- Note: We really are talking about physical webs here, meaning materials processed as continuous flexible sheets conveyed over rollers - fabrics, plastic films, long strips of rubber, metals and so forth - not about the internet. Web handling refers to the mechanical science related to the transport of webs through processes and machines. This little-known field of engineering, which has gained formal recognition in only the last 30 years, involves a surprising variety of engineering challenges.
